Substance Abuse Department

It is the primary goal of the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians Substance Abuse Department to provide quality substance abuse and mental health treatment that will integrate and reinforce the traditional/cultural/ spiritual values/norms of the Waganakising Odawa to members and clientele, and their families, who are experiencing life challenges resulting from abuse of substances, addictions, mental health issues, and/or historical trauma. The team of qualified professionals will also call upon existing resources of tribal elders, healers, traditional medicine people, and spiritual leaders, as well as collaborate with other trained professionals and programs.

Substance Abuse Program

What is substance abuse or substance dependence?

The Substance Abuse Program provides a culturally-sensitive and family-focused curriculum to assist clientele in re-establishing and fostering healthy lifestyles and to assist clientele in healthy decision making.

The Substance Abuse Program provides individual, family, and group counseling, recognizing the concept of alcoholism and drug addiction as treatable diseases. Other services include assessments, education, prevention, and referrals to services otherwise not available at the tribal level.

The Substance Abuse Program is licensed with the State of Michigan and accredited through the Rehabilitation Accreditation Commission (CARF).

Mental Health Program

The Mental Health Program has four components. They include therapeutic services for individuals (adults, adolescents, children), families and groups including assessments; educational outreach; and a fall encampment.

A culturally-sensitive team of qualified professionals using a holistic treatment model provides the outpatient mental health services.

The Mental Health Program is accredited through the Rehabilitation Accreditation Commission (CARF).
