To maintain a working relationship with the LTBB of Odawa Indians by communicating all development activities, encouraging a healthy home. environment, seeking resources to build and rehabilitate affordable, high quality, safe and sanitary housing; and establishing opportunities for economic self sufficiency.

The LTBB Odawa Housing Department administers the HUD Eastern Woodland Office of Native American Programs allocation of Indian Housing Block Grant funding. Resulting from the Native American Housing Assistance and Self Determination Act (NAHASDA), the appropriations allow for the implementation of affordable housing activities in Indian Country.

The staff is excited with the progress of the first "Odawa Housing Development". The 80-acre site is located just north of Harbor Springs. The development will offer Tribal citizens 30 homeownership sites with various mortgage alternatives made available. The first phase of the Development is an elders' rental housing program, and will be implemented in conjunction with USDA Rural Development. It will consist of (6) duplexes. Housing staff also administers the following programs:

HIP and N.A.H.A.S.S.A. Home Improvement Programs
Indian Health Service (I.H.S.) Well and Septic Program
Home Ownership Program
Credit & Credit Counseling for homeownership
Down Payment & Closing Cost Assistance
Guidance to Tribal Families in the home purchase process and act as liaison between Rural Development and Private Financial Institution, Loan pre-qualif ication assistance.
Rental Assistance Program: a one time only program, first months rent and security deposit.
Requirements for each program vary. Tribal Citizens should contact the Housing Department for applications and additional information on each program. Each program is based on income eligibility and residence within the 27 county service areas.
